Cheapest Couples' Breaks for September & October

A getaway during school term time has its advantages – fewer kids around, great offers and the cheapest of getaways! So it's a great time for couples to think about a holiday, as many operators bring out their best deals to encourage post-peak season bookings.

So, as a quick guide (with the help of TravelSupermarket), here's a round-up on the cheapest couples' breaks for September and October – just make sure you steer clear of October half-term!

In a nutshell, the most affordable resorts this September and October are in Corfu, Bulgaria and the Costa Brava.

Kavos in Corfu is the cheapest destination for two adults sharing, with a median price per night of £39.29. In second place is Lloret de Mar on the Costa Brava at £42.80, followed by Sidari, Corfu (£43.78) Varna, Bulgaria (£48.71) and Malia, Greece (£49.86).

According to the operator, resorts in Corfu appear twice in its top 10, with holidays to the island offering great value from just £207 per person for a package deal including flights and accommodation.

However, when thinking about the cost of living once in resort, it is the Bulgarian resorts of Varna and Sunny Beach that could offer the best overall value for money, with the cost of eating out, etc. much cheaper than in other Eurozone countries.

Plus the great news is that temperatures in places like Bulgaria in September are still in the early 20 degrees, while the October average is around 17-19 degrees.

Two Turkish resorts also make it into the top 10 – Icmeler and Alanya. And with the recent drops in the value of the lira, the country as a whole has become even better value for money for Brits.

Median price per night for a seven-night getaway

  1. Kavos, Corfu – £39.29
  2. Lloret de Mar, Costa Brava, Spain – £42.80
  3. Sidari, Corfu – £43.78
  4. Varna, Bulgaria – £48.71
  5. Malia, Greece – £49.86
  6. Sunny Beach, Bulgaria – £50.32
  7. Salou, Costa Dorada, Spain – £51.86
  8. Alvor, Algarve, Portugal – £52.00
  9. Icmeler, Dalaman, Turkey – £53.50
  10. Alanya, Antalya, Turkey – £53.71
To get the best deal it helps to:
  • Be flexible with the dates you can go – mid-week prices are often the cheapest.
  • If you are able to depart from more than one local airport, it is also worth comparing prices to see which option is cheapest – just don’t forget to factor in the cost of travelling to the airport, as well as parking if you decide to drive.

Based on a two adults sharing (with the accommodation scoring a minimum of 3/5 on reviews), here's a few options for around the £200 mark you can consider…

Kavos, Corfu

A stay at the three-star Nikos Villas on a bed-and-breakfast basis, departing from Stansted on 18th September for seven nights costs from £219 (or £207 from Manchester).

Lloret de Mar, Costa Brava

A bed-and-breakfast stay at the three-star Hotel Montanamar will set you back £207 for seven nights. The deal is for those departing from Stansted on 18th September.

Varna, Bulgaria

A seven-night escape to the three-star Detelina Hotel (including breakfast) leads in at £211 for those travelling from Luton on 18th September.

Other deals include a stay in Greece's Malia from £228, in Salou (Spain) from £188, in Portugal's Algarve from £257 and in Icmeler, Turkey from £248.

Cheers Laura – the problem that many parents face eh!

Kara 3rd September 2018 - 10:40 am

I would love a break without the kids but sadly have no one to look after them

LaurettaCWright 3rd September 2018 - 2:02 pm

Your time will come when they’re older Kara! Even when the grandparents look after ours (or take them away), we rarely go away ourselves – we tend to make the most of the opportunity by getting the house in order first 😉

It’s so tempting to book an off peak holiday and these all sound great. I’d just need someone to look after the kids, take them to school etc.

LaurettaCWright 3rd September 2018 - 2:03 pm

Yes – I know what you mean – us with young kids are a bit stuck unless we have some extra help.

Jen 1st September 2018 - 12:18 pm

Some great ideas here. I’d never considered Bulgaria before but I’ve heard some great things lately.

LaurettaCWright 3rd September 2018 - 9:39 pm

I was going to head to Bulgaria a couple of years ago but it never transpired, so I’ve definitely got my eye on the destination too.
