When you’re selling your home, you’ll want to get it off your hands as quickly as possible, while making the most amount of money.

One of the best things you can do to help you achieve both is to create a home that looks ‘move in ready.’ Buyers will pay more, and be more likely to put in an offer for a home that looks in good cosmetic condition and doesn’t show signs of any potentially expensive unfinished jobs.

Create curb appeal

Making your home look good on the outside is always a good move when you’re selling your home. If it looks untidy or unattractive, you might struggle to get people through the door to view it in the first place.

Clear away anything that’s been left out, and give it a sweep and a blast with a pressure washer. Trim back gardens, and consider adding extra touches such as pots of flowers.

Finish all DIY jobs or unfinished projects

Any little niggling jobs in your home will all knock down the price. Even if things aren’t expensive or difficult to fix, most buyers will assume they will be. An innocent crack in the wall could be seen as a potential structural issue. A missing kitchen door or handle could lead them to believe a whole new kitchen is needed.

Having everything up to scratch removes any doubt in buyers minds and will get you a better price when it comes to selling. Give it a fresh coat of paint

Stage It

As with the decor, when people are coming to view your home you will want to appeal to as many people as possible. That means making your home look cozy and inviting, but without too many details that are personal to you. This will allow them to picture themselves living there.

Staging your home creates an image of the kind of lifestyle your buyers could have if the choose to move in. You could add touches like fresh flowers to the sideboard. You could dress the coffee table with a couple of magazines, or set up the dining table with your best crockery to give a good impression of your home.

All great tips! It’s crazy what a new coat of paint and some pressure washing can do. We have done a few flips without staging, and we seem to get mixed results. I know some buyers just need to see the space already laid out for them. Great post as always.

Thanks for the comment – there’s lots to consider when taking good photos – positioning, lighting, aesthetics etc. Best advice is to play around with the shots and take plenty of them!
