Wow – what a month. Huge highs and huge lows and not much in between!
Again, I would have liked to have put together more blog posts this month, but life has been challenging – both work wise and health wise – which is another story for another time.
But most of my earnings this month have come from other sources rather than the blog. One of these side hustles (although it really is my main hustle) is the magazine that I launched with my business partner last month.
I explain a little of how I started getting prepared to launch a physical magazine in my ‘April Favourite Finds and Things I’ve Tried’ post, but I’ll probably end up writing a more detailed post at some point, as I’ve had a couple of bloggers messaging me to ask how I started.
It was great to team up with Matr this month, who provided my daughter Nadja with some online maths tuition in the run-up to her SATs exams.
It really gave her a huge boost in confidence and she seems much more confident about going into the exams now, which start just next week.
I’ve turned down many collaborations that I would otherwise have taken up in April, including the chance to trial a stunning watch. However, my main hustle and my health come first and I wasn’t prepared to bite off more than I could chew.
Integrity is really important to me, so when I work with a brand I want to be able to deliver to the best of my ability. Had I taken up some of the other collaborations, I wouldn’t have had time to put in the time and effort into being as thorough as I could. But there’s no shame in saying no – I’m doing both the brand and myself a favour.
Anyway, it looks like they are prepared to wait for me and do something with me in the summer, which will be lovely.
Who I met
I’ve actually met loads of people this last month, but no one via the blog and I haven’t attended any events.
I’ve seen a lot of friends over the last few weeks, which has been lovely. I count my blessings that I’m able to work for myself and that I can be totally flexible when it comes to what I do with my time.
For the immediate future I probably won’t be attending any blogging events, but it would be nice to hook up with a couple of my good blogging pals next month. I’m going to try and arrange this if I can.
I wouldn’t say I’ve had any major fails this month, but I did struggle on a few occasions to keep on top of the emails. It was getting too much at one point and I could feel anxiety starting to creep in, so I made the decision to unsubscribe to a few regular emails – you know, the ones you receive regularly, don’t bother to read and end up deleting.
It was actually quite a liberating experience and I’m looking forward to seeing a big reduction in the amount of emails I receive on a daily basis. It will take the pressure off and hopefully I will feel less pressure, which is the overall aim.
My vlogging channel
I put together a video about online tuition provider, Matr, where my daughter Nadja spent some time revising and getting help in preparation for her SATS exams. It was a fun video to put together and Matr’s feedback was that it was one of the best videos they’ve received, which was music to my ears!
I also managed to put together a video on my recent TKMaxx purchases. I do love a good haul at TKMaxx – it’s quite possibly my favourite shop and I will usually always find something I like in there.
I’ve still got a voucher from my brother to spend in there – it was my 40th birthday present (three years old), but I’m saving it up for something special so that I can say it was a present for my 40th. I’m possibly looking at a chaise longue for my bedroom (I’ve going for the French look), but have yet to see one in the shops. Perhaps I should keep an eye on what they’ve got online too.
Instagram has released Quiz stickers! They’re great for boosting engagement on stories as they offer an interactive way of connecting with fans.
I haven’t actually tried them yet, but you can basically ask questions and offer a multiple choice for the answers. For example, you could ask your fans ‘What’s My Favourite Thing To Do On Sunday Afternoon?’ (a) Nap (b) Read (c) Binge watch Netflix (d) Go Shopping. The answers have to be at least two choices and a maximum of four and when someone answers your quiz they then receive the results.
I do like it when Instagram launches new gimmicks, but I’ve not been impressed with the platform lately as I’ve seen some bloggers report missing posts and even Instagram following and unfollowing accounts on their behalf. They shouldn’t be allowed to do this. As far as I know, Twitter and Facebook don’t go meddling with users’ accounts, so why do they think this is ok?!
April was yet another great month for the monthly magazine that my business partner, Nicky, and I produce. It’s surprising really given everything that’s happened over the past couple of months. As long as we stay in the black -and most importantly, cover our printing costs – we’ll be absolutely fine.
So this month we brought in nearly £2,000 earning just under £1,000 each. We allowed ourselves a small withdrawal again to make sure the bank balance is healthy.
I also managed to sell a few Belstaff items on eBay this month, earning me an additional £113.10. Less the eBay fees of £2 (top tip – keep a look out for eBay’s sell for just £1 offers – if you’re selling high value items you will save an absolute fortune off eBay’s usual fees!). In addition, the blog collaborations have earned me £150 this month.
However, since the work has gone up on the magazine, I decided to cut back on promoting the affiliate links – they were taking too much time to update regularly, so I thought it best to concentrate on things that are bringing in more serious money (blog collaborations and the magazine) and leave the ones that are earning me just pennies. Any ‘pennies’ I’ve earned from the blog this month I’m discounting as, right now, this isn’t an area of growth for me.
Other income streams in October:
– JustPark £60.80 (I rent my driveway for parking and also use JustPark for when I’m visiting hospitals, town centres, stadiums, airports etc) here’s £5 to get you started!
– Top Cashback: £3.12 – this is how I earn FREE cash for shopping online! Check it out for yourself.
Total income: £1,501.88
Out and about
Over Easter (with the kids away with my parents), VIP and I managed to get away to France for a couple of days. The change of scenery was just what the doctor ordered. I came home feeling revived and ready to crack on with work.
My health has suffered a blow recently – and practically every day people have been popping over to bring me care packages, flowers or just a hug – and it’s been lovely.
I’ve been conscious of not overdoing things lately and desperately trying hard not to feel guilty about it either! Why should we? Every now and then it’s important to put ourselves first isn’t it?
April At A Glance
What was great? My mini trip to Rouen was the highlight of my month.
What wasn’t? Getting an infection, getting antibiotics and having a really bad allergic reaction to them, ending up in A&E!
Goals for May: Write a few more blog posts, get out and meet people and pamper myself!
