I’ve got a few mini upcycling projects that I keep meaning to do. One of them is to revamp my indoor storm lantern, which has seen better days. It’s a lovely conversation starter when friends come to dine (it’s in the dining room), but it just needed a bit of sprucing up.

So when Frenchic Paint got in touch to see if I’d like to try their paint range, I took them up on it.

I haven’t heard of Frenchic before, but discovered that the company launched in 2015 and offers a huge range of high quality chalk and mineral paint – ideal for helping DIY enthusiasts give old or unused furniture an entirely new look without skimping on style or substance.

I chose ‘Mother Duck’ paint, which looked like it would tie in beautifully with the colours of my dining room.

First of all, I gave my storm lantern a good old clean using baby wipes – I hadn’t realised quite how filthy I had allowed it to become! I also cleaned the glass and the base of the lantern.

The next step was of course to paint – I found it went on really well and the consistency on application was good – it helps to have a good paintbrush too.

I loved the colour and although it wasn’t the exact same shade as what I had on my walls, the colour complemented the room’s theme.

I gave the storm lantern two coats of paint, which was ideal for the coverage I was looking for. It’s a matt, chalk paint and looks great in the room now that it has been given a new lease of life.

I’ve recently discovered that Frenchic has now launched an Al Fresco range for outdoor garden furniture range, which is available in five pastel shades; Wise Old Sage, Ol’ Blue Eyes, Cream Dream, Parma Violet and Apple of my Eye.

All the paints are all EN:71-3 certified making them safe for children’s toys and pets, with no odour, no stirring or shaking required and very low VOC content. Prices are £16.95 for 750ml.

Mmmh….I’ve been meaning to give my garden bench a bit of an update – now I’ve just got to wait for the sun to make a good, solid appearance!
