However nice an airport seems though, they do share one thing in common – their annoyances. In the name of research and to find these out, online travel agency Sunshine.co.uk asked 1,952 Brits what their top 10 airport annoyances are, and revealed that queues, the high cost of food, drink & other items plus busy terminals topped the list, with the majority finding the whole airport experience ‘very stressful’.
The top 10 airport annoyances were..
1. Queues – 79%
2. Price of food/drink/items – 68%
3. How busy they are – 47%
4. Hyperactive children – 32%
5. How far apart everything is – 27%
6. Waiting for baggage – 24%
7. Priority boarders – 17%
8. Rude staff – 16%
9. Handing over boarding pass for purchases – 11%
10. Strictness of procedures – 5%
Interestingly, almost half of the people who took part in the poll said that they ‘always’ drank alcohol in an airport. – 37% drank to make the airport experience ‘more bearable’, while more than the 28% of people drank to get into the holiday spirit.
The company’s advice? Well, it does suggest that a lot of the airport annoyances are simply unavoidable, but don’t let any of that put a dampener on your holiday.
The key message is to plan ahead and if you’re really not looking forward to those few hours before your flight, why not get yourself booked into a lounge to start relaxing and perhaps pay extra for priority check-in and boarding?
After all, it’s nice to treat yourself once in a while.
