‘In the Blog Seat’ is a series of interviews with bloggers and vloggers who share their blogging journey, inspirations and learning lessons…

Steve Holland from Daddy Stinks lives in Peterborough with his two kids, Lexie (9) and Kieran (8).

He started blogging in April of this year and blogs about his interests and lifestyle. Steve is a homeless, lone parent living in emergency accommodation. He is also ex forces and is suffering from PTSD from being in Afghanistan in 2010.

Apart from blogging what else do you enjoy?
I enjoy photography as it gives me an excuse to get out of the house and take nice photos.

What three things can’t you live without to help manage your blog – and why?
My sisters Jaymee from The Mum Diaries and Tash from Mummy and Moose. I have literally no idea what I am doing yet and they often get woken by a Facebook message asking them how I add a link or change something.

Who is your ideal reader?
Single dads who have only just got custody of their children or are only just about to.

How did you first get into blogging?
Again I have to blame my sisters for this!

How did you choose the niche(s) that you have chosen to blog in?
My life experiences have made this niche available to me and I am lucky it is such a small pond.

How do you manage time to run your blog efficiently?
I don’t sleep: D This gives me something to do in the evenings while the house is quiet!

What strategies have worked well for you in getting more traffic to your blog?
I am yet to discover this, but any tips are more than welcome!

What blog achievement are you most proud of?
Getting it off the ground and up and running. My first post has reached 732 people which is pretty cool!

What are your blogging goals for the next 12 months?
I want to grow in numbers and create a mini community of people sharing advice whilst making friends along the way.

What’s the most challenging issue for you in your blogging journey so far?
I can’t spell and I have no idea about passive voice; damn I hate that. Oh and keeping sentences to under 20 words is a pain too.

Steve Holland from Daddy Stinks

What motivates you to keep your blog up and running?
I love doing it. I want to share my experiences with the world.

Do you have any favourite bloggers?
The honest dad is one of my all time favourites. The guy is a genius, he makes me laugh loads.

Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?
It’s a hobby for me. Obviously I am aware of the advantages of running a blog, but my main focus is the fact I want to improve my spelling and grammar so I am more help to the kids – and this is a great way to do that.

Where do you hope your blog will take you?
I hope it helps me out when I am feeling like I am failing at fatherhood. So I am hoping it helps my confidence.

Where do you get your inspiration for your blog posts?
The monsters give me endless content every day. I love children and I am passionate about the country we live in and how parenting styles will shape the next generation.

What’s the best thing a blogger can give to their readers?
Honesty and passion for me.

What’s the biggest mistake that you’ve made in blogging so far?
I have probably made loads so far but as I am so new to it all I have no idea what I have done wrong yet. Although I do keep making pages not posts which is annoying

What do you love most about blogging and how long do you spend blogging in a typical week?
I just love writing and sharing my life and my experiences. I know I have led an interesting life and I feel like it would make for a good read. I spend too many hours on it at the moment because I am not navigating the sites properly yet.

If someone was interested in starting a blog, what one piece of advice would you offer him or her?
Do it for yourself.

The nitty gritty...

What is your favourite blog post (or one of your favourite) you’ve written and why? This one because it was my first and it was such a rollercoaster of emotions for me. I loved writing it, I love reading it and I love remembering most of it.

What type of blog post do you most enjoy writing?
I have only really written about me so far. I don’t feel like I have blogged about any subjects except me so far but I can't wait to start writing about how parenthood affects you in a war zone.

Do you collaborate with brands?
No, I am not big enough for this yet.

Do you vlog – and if so, what about?
I don’t I watch vlogs like the Honest Father - he is so brilliant that it scares me off!

This is an interesting post. I like that he said he can’t spell. My dad has that difficulty and despite it he does his best, clearly the same as steve. A great post.

I totally agree that keeping sentences down to 20 words is crazily hard. At least it theoretically stops me waffling x
