‘In the Blog Seat’ is a series of interviews with bloggers and vloggers who share their blogging journey, inspirations and learning lessons…
Stephanie Canham from Priceless Life Of Mine launched her lifestyle blog about two-and-a-half years ago. You’d hardly believe it from looking at her photo, but Stephanie and her husband have been together for 33 years and married for 25 of those!
When she’s not busy blogging Stephanie enjoys walking and cycling in and around Leicestershire where she lives…
Who is your ideal reader?
Anyone & everyone to be honest! I knew mine had to be a lifestyle blog because I have such a busy life with lots going on to write about, and although I’m a 40-plus blogger, my biggest audience are currently in the 25-34 age group.
How did you first get into blogging?
I read a couple of blogs and thought it would be a fun way to document my busy life.
What are your blogging goals for the next 12 months?
To concentrate on growing my social media and also get myself out there! By that I mean I’m going to make a conscious effort to contact brands myself to see if we can work together rather than waiting for things to come my way – I need to make that happen!
Oh, I’m also thinking about YouTube, which I find scary as an older blogger, but I’m thinking it could help a lot of 30/40 plus women with lifestyle & beauty tips. It is just a thought though at the moment!
What’s the most challenging issue for you in your blogging journey so far?
Most definitely the technical side of things and just setting up everything from scratch. It was sooo frustrating in the beginning (and can still be at times now), but also so rewarding.
Do you have any favourite bloggers?
Right up there is Rosie from The Londoner. Everything she writes about is incredible and her photography is off the scale amazing. She inspires me a lot.
What motivates you to keep your blog up and running?
The fact that I love it and I truly enjoy being able to tell people about a new lipstick or a place I’ve visited recently.
Is blogging your profession or just a hobby?
It’s a hobby right now but I would love it to develop and turn into something more. I want to start working with brands and on more collaborations.
Where do you hope your blog will take you?
To be honest I hope to start working with my 19 year old daughter on some fashion posts. I want to show that fashion doesn’t have to be age appropriate; in fact, we both shop in the same stores and can buy the same clothes yet style them slightly differently. From there I’d then love us to do collaborations with brands on exactly that and a fashion shoot would be where I’d like it to go – gotta dream big!
Do you monetise your blog – and if so, if what ways?
I don’t at the moment. I did dabble with affiliate links but to be honest they earn pennies if anything so don’t really bother with those now but I do want to start doing some sponsored post in the very near future.
Where do you get your inspiration for your blog posts?
Everywhere! Things I buy, places I visit, life experiences and of course other bloggers.
What do you love most about blogging and how long do you spend blogging in a typical week?
The photography side of things if I’m honest. At the start my photos were shocking but I think I’ve really upped my game and I just want to get better and better.
It’s hard to say how long I spend blogging because I’ll get an hour in here and there when I can and plus time on my days off work. I’m always on blogging duty really because I never put my phone down, I’m worse than my teenage daughter!
If someone was interested in starting a blog, what one piece of advice would you offer him or her?
Just go for it but please don’t do it for ‘free stuff’ or thinking that you’ll be able to give up your job and have an easy life. Nothing is free in blogging and it’s certainly not an easy life as everything takes time, hard work and dedication.
THE NITTY GRITTY... What is your favourite blog post you’ve written and why? My favourite blog post and really proud is one about my thoughts on being a successful blogger - it’s one that’s had a lot of views and comments. What type of blog post do you most enjoy writing? Although I’ve not done that many I would say it’s travel posts. They’re quite long though because I add in soooo many photos! Do you vlog – and if so, what about? I don’t yet but it’s something I want to start in the not too distant future. I don't think there’s enough 40-plus bloggers on YouTube.
