I do love this time of year when I get to discover what’s new for the upcoming colder months – and supermarkets and high street shops are great at anticipating and delivering bang-on trends year after year.
And this autumn/winter is no different. I recently went along to Sainsbury’s autumn/winter and Christmas show to see what goodies are in store from September…
Four new interior themes are being introduced for autumn/winter this year – all of which have taken inspiration from a variety of sources – from the Great British countryside to the interiors of inner city boutique hotels and cocktail lounges.
So let’s take a look!
Woodland Walk captures the tones and textures of an autumnal country walk, creating a cosy living space with warm aubergine and mulberry colours used across chunky knits and patterned textiles.
The shades pop against mustard and duck egg blue tones seen on ceramics and home accessories, complementing this classic look for the British home.
The unique narrative of Woodland Walk is brought to life with the hare figures that are hand-carved with a brass metallic finish. This Hare Lamp is a statement piece to set the scene for the autumn months ahead and costs £30.
It’s all about the glamour in this theme where opulent textures and this season’s must have tones of vetiver and jewel tone greens are evidenced throughout.
Hints of brushed gold and mirrored finishes are also incorporated, while stylish home accessories create a sophisticated look with a geometric pattern inspired by ornate designs gathered from visits to boutique hotels and opulent residences.
Inspired by the Nordic scenery and lifestyle, this design theme exudes contemporary style.
Combining muted tones, embossed textures and soft accents of colours, a clean and versatile aesthetic is achieved – and materials such as wood, mercury glass and grey faux fur can be incorporated throughout the home from the dining room to the bedroom.
The new cookshop and utility offering marries modern design with functionality, creating a calming and minimalist nature throughout the home.
Fireside is designed to bring warmth into the home with cosy fragrances and sumptuous throws for those hot chocolate evenings by the fire.
Classic wintery scenes are hand-painted and illustrated patterns in rich, traditional tones, all designed by the Sainsbury’s in-house team, are seen across tableware, bedding and home accessories.
Warming textures of chunky knits and faux fur are incorporated into the home with red berry and mistletoe motifs for a nod to the upcoming festive season.
Meanwhile, the supermarket giant is introducing 5 new themes for Christmas, which will be in store from October. They include:
Delicate shades of grey and white together with frosted ornaments feature in this design theme with a range of tableware, accessories, textiles and Christmas decorations.
This tableware range brings a hint of nostalgia to this year’s celebrations. The chic yet simple range, with luxurious detailing on glasses and crockery is ideal for seasonal entertaining.
The Festivity collection features a traditional colour palette, marrying deep reds and wintery greens to create a striking seasonal setting. The great British countryside in winter has inspired the exclusive, in-house illustrations of flowers, berries and holly that are seen across tableware, tree and home decorations for a classic style this Christmas.
Celebrating the sparkle and glitter of Christmas, this collection combines classic elegance and modern culture. Adorn the home with gold accessories and decorations that are perfect for adding a look of decadence and luxury. Completing the look this holiday season is a new collection of barware influenced by art deco cut glass patterns with gold detailing.
Create a Scandinavian festive scene for a contemporary Christmas celebration. Characters synonymous with a nordic winter setting are created with tactile materials of wool, glass and wood in a styish colour palette of red, white and grey to decorate the home.
Capture kids’ imaginations with the North Pole collection for a cheerful, fun-filled season. Designed in-house and inspired by the magic and excitement of Christmas, this range features jolly elf and Santa characters – appearing across decorations, soft toys, bedding, cards and wrap.
Did you know…? Sainsbury’s Home currently includes over 6,000 products, available in over 400 stores nationwide.
Meanwhile, Habitat and Argos – which are part of the Sainsbury’s Argos Group – were also showcasing their new wares for autumn and winter at the press show.
At Habitat strong themes emerging included strong architectural shapes with plenty of geometric patterns; textures with plenty of detailing; darker look tableware with a high glamour undertone; and plenty of handmade accessories and homewares including vases from Thailand and rugs made from saris in India.
The AW17 colour palette has a new group of matt, chalky, earthy colours. Colours like Fennel, Salmon and Paprika are key to the season and create a backdrop to set more saturated brights against.
Crocus and Satsuma are new colours for Habitat. Used in small amounts against a more chalky palette to create a sophisticated combination.
There is also a strong focus on statement lighting, rugs (with around 30 new additions!) and 1970s Bohemia.
Argos was showcasing five new trends in homeware for autumn/winter and its new catalogue for autumn/winter will be in stores from 22nd July. They include:
Dark Poetry is a stylistic approach to interiors with a focus on filling your home with products that are both functional and visually striking.
With a fusion elegant design and decadent materials this collection creates a sense of luxurious living.
Touches of gold, brushed brass and jewel tones add a feeling of warmth for the winter season.
The collection of furniture and home accessories allude to architectural forms with structured shapes and designs, while velvet textiles and soft upholstery add elegance to rooms.
One of my favourite products from the show included a leaning floor lamp (in the Dark Poetry collection), which can lean it any direction depending on where you need the light. It costs £39.99.
Inspired by the arid beauty of New Mexico and South America, the fashion-forward Native Earth trend offers a warm and rustic feel with tribal-inspired designs.
The colour palette celebrates Autumn with rich clay red and burnt orange hues paired with charcoal tones, blue accents and dark woods.
Metallic home accessories and woven materials add a rugged finish to the look, whilst bold tribal textiles and embossed ceramics create a strong visual impact.
Inhabit is a minimal trend that celebrates a new pace of home life by creating a comforting and calming space that encourages restoration in the winter months.
Soothing neutral tones are introduced to the bedroom, interspersed with delicate patterns, as seen on The Collection Yoko Bedding which features a contemporary grey leaf pattern that runs across the duvet cover and matching pillowcases (with an impressive 180 thread count!).
Elsewhere, furniture designs show a nod to Danish influences with clean lines, minimal shapes and blonde woods.
The Artisan trend is inspired by the country look and brings a sense of great outdoors into the home.
With a combination of textured woods, stone-coloured ceramics, chunky knits and rustic metal accessories, the trend exudes warmth and character.
Artisan creates an authentic and homely feel which embraces an appreciation of nature and the outdoors.
Inspired by hazy Winter mornings, Forest Frost introduces a soothing and tranquil look to the home.
It features a soft blue palette balanced with pastel pink hues. Textiles are adorned with watercolour florals, nature-inspired details and diluted ombre ink washes to achieve a serene setting.
Furniture and home accessories are delicately rounded in a painted chalk finish, while velvet and fur textiles ensure this trend feels cosy throughout the cooler months.
